  3. 1:00 That's right. The year is 1965,
  4. 1:02 and you and I are undercover detectives on the hot rod circuit.
  5. 1:05 Now let's burn rubber, baby.
  6. 1:09 Speedway Squad, in color.
  7. 1:15 Wait, that was all a dream.
  8. 1:18 Oh, hey, then maybe I haven't become a hideous drunken wreck.
  9. 1:24 Oh.
  10. 1:26 Dozens of people are gunned down each day in Springfield, but until now,
  11. 1:30 none of them was important. I'm Kent Brockman.
  12. 1:33 At 3 p.m. Friday, local autocrat C.
  13. 1:35 Montgomery Burns was shot following a tense confrontation at Town Hall.
  14. 1:39 Burns was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
  15. 1:42 He was then transferred to a better hospital where doctors upgraded his condition to
  16. 1:45 alive.
  17. 1:46 Now let's talk to Police Chief Wiggum.
  18. 1:49 Oh, hiya, Kent.
  19. 1:51 Right now we are questioning two witnesses who were in the vicinity at the time.
  20. 1:57 Did you see this guy? Was he anywhere near the parking lot when Burns got shot?
  21. 2:02 No, that's no use.
  22. 2:03 He ain't talking.
  23. 2:06 Everyone in Springfield had a reason to shoot Mr.
  24. 2:08 Burns. Even us.
  25. 2:10 Bart, he broke your dog's legs.
  26. 2:13 Grandpa, he destroyed your home.
  27. 2:15 And Dad, well, you kind of went berserk when he couldn't remember your name.
  28. 2:18 Berserk is right!
  29. 2:20 May I have some ice tea, please?
  30. 2:22 Aren't we forgetting someone?
  31. 2:24 Sister suspect.
  32. 2:26 You know what's just getting to me?
  33. 2:28 Because of Mr. Burns, they canceled my jazz program, and my friend Tito Puente got fired.
  34. 2:33 But I could never shoot someone.
  35. 2:35 Could so, could not, could so, could not, could so, could not, could so, could not.
  36. 2:38 Kids, kids, kids.
  37. 2:38 As far as Daddy's concerned, you're both potential murderers.
  38. 2:42 The police already have a suspect. It's Mr.
  39. 2:44 Smithers.
  40. 2:45 Sure. Oh, he's a good suspect.
  41. 2:47 Oh, I bet he's the one. Yes, Mingers did it.
  42. 2:50 Case closed. Now where's my hat? I'm going to the outhouse.
  43. 2:53 We don't have an outhouse. My tool shed!
  44. 2:57 Oh, Dad!
  45. 2:59 Could I have shot Mr. Burns in a drunken rage?
  46. 3:02 No, no, not me. I know in my heart I... ...a gun.
  47. 3:06 And it's been recently fired.
  48. 3:08 Wait.
  49. 3:08 I remember leaving the town meeting.
  50. 3:14 Must have run into Mr. Burns outside and...
  51. 3:17 Dad!
  52. 3:17 Mr.
  53. 3:18 Burns!
  54. 3:20 Mr. Burns, what have I done?
  55. 3:33 Hey, Homer, us hotheads here is gonna go tear down Burns' sunblocking machine.
  56. 3:38 You wanna come with? Sure.
  57. 3:40 I've had it up to here with his damn rickets.
  58. 3:53 Bull, Dungeons!
  59. 3:54 Bull!
  60. 4:03 Um, what town did we just crush? Shelbyville.
  61. 4:08 Ugh, this guilt is driving me mad.
  62. 4:12 I've got to tell someone.
  63. 4:18 Father, I'm not a Catholic, but... Well, I tried to march in the St.
  64. 4:22 Patrick's Day parade.
  65. 4:23 But anyway, I've got a rather large sin to confess.
  66. 4:30 I'm the one who... Who shot Mr.
  67. 4:33 Burns.
  68. 4:35 That's all I needed to hear.
  69. 4:36 Boy, this thing works great.
  70. 4:38 A man became consumed by greed. He'd steal from anyone.
  71. 4:42 This isn't a rival company you're battling with.
  72. 4:44 It's a school. People won't stand for it.
  73. 4:46 Pish, pash. It would be like taking candy from a baby.
  74. 4:50 Say, that sounds like a larf.
  75. 4:53 And when he tried to steal our sunlight,
  76. 4:56 he crossed that line between everyday villainy and cartoonish supervillainy.
  77. 5:01 Bah!
  78. 5:02 She was a rank amateur compared to Dr.
  79. 5:06 Colossus.
  80. 5:07 Ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha!
  81. 5:12 When is my lawyer coming?
  82. 5:17 Over here!
  83. 5:18 Dave Shotton, Springfield Deli shopper. Who are you?
  84. 5:20 Where are you going?
  85. 5:21 Do your research, Shotton. Kent Brockman, Channel 6 News.
  86. 5:25 How does it feel to be accused of the attempted murder of your boss and mentor?
  87. 5:29 Can't I?
  88. 5:30 I feel about as low as Madonna when she found out she missed tail hook.
  89. 5:33 I'm gonna say ouch for Madonna.
  90. 5:36 Hey! That's my Madonna gag! That guy stole my gag!
  91. 5:40 And you stole it from last Friday's episode of Pardon My Zinger.
  92. 5:43 Stole, made up, what's the difference?
  93. 5:46 Mr. Smithers must have seen that program too.
  94. 5:49 He never misses it.
  95. 5:52 At the town meeting, he mentioned that he watched Comedy Central.
  96. 5:55 I made sure to note that, as it seemed quite unusual.
  97. 5:59 Ye gods!
  98. 6:00 To the police station, Krusty!
  99. 6:02 I am Melvin Van Horn, and this is my associate, Herschel Krustowski.
  100. 6:07 Hey, hey.
  101. 6:08 Officers, you have arrested an innocent man.
  102. 6:11 Really?
  103. 6:12 Oh, jeez.
  104. 6:13 All right, Colossus, you're free to go. But stay away from Death Mountain.
  105. 6:16 All my stuff is there.
  106. 6:19 I was referring to Waylon Smithers.
  107. 6:22 Mr. Burns was shot Friday at 3 p.m.,
  108. 6:25 the very time that Smithers was at home watching Pardon My Zinger.
  109. 6:29 So you see, he couldn't have done it.
  110. 6:32 Yes, you're right. I remember now. I watched that entire show.
  111. 6:36 In fact, I left the town meeting early so I could get home in time.
  112. 6:40 Well, I gotta run or I'll miss the opening rank out.
  113. 6:45 I will get out of my break. Slow down.
  114. 6:49 The sidewalk's for regular walking, not for fancy walking.
  115. 6:52 Out of my way. I'm in a hurry. You simmer down.
  116. 6:55 I'll let you go.
  117. 6:59 So, instead of wounding an evil old man, I may have killed an innocent old man.
  118. 7:05 That's much worse. About 50,000 volts worse, if you know what I mean.
  119. 7:09 Eh, bleh, sizzle. Wait a minute.
  120. 7:13 If a second old geezer got shot, how come nobody reported it?
  121. 7:20 Uh, hi.
  122. 7:22 Um, can we take a look at your leg?
  123. 7:26 Yeah, that's real spruce.
  124. 7:29 You like it?
  125. 7:30 Thank God.
  126. 7:32 Sir, I only hope you can forgive me for shooting your wooden leg.
  127. 7:37 You shot who and what now? Okay, Smithers, you're free to go.
  128. 7:41 And you, one question.
  129. 7:43 Do you know who shot Mr. Burns? Because we are really up the creek on this one.
  130. 7:49 And with the prime suspect cleared and found completely innocent,
  131. 7:52 we must now ask ourselves, who could possibly be as bloodthirsty as Waylon Smithers?
  132. 7:58 I guess it's never the most likely suspect.
  133. 8:00 Actually, Mom, in 95% of cases, it is. The rest of the time,
  134. 8:04 it's usually some deranged lunatic who did it for no reason.
  135. 8:07 Hey, I had a damn good reason. He could never remember my name.
  136. 8:13 Who the devil are you?
  137. 8:20 Well, I don't think anyone in this family is capable of attempted murder.
  138. 8:26 You never know what you're capable of.
  139. 8:28 I never thought I could shoot down a German plane, but last year I proved myself wrong.
  140. 8:35 Nancy Drew says that all you need to solve a mystery is an inquisitive temperament and two
  141. 8:38 good friends. And I've got an inquisitive temperament.
  142. 8:41 Maybe I could help solve this.
  143. 8:44 I think you're a little young to be investigating an attempted murder.
  144. 8:47 Why don't you try to solve the mystery of who put that mud in the freezer?
  145. 8:52 Who wants chocolate ice cream?
  146. 8:54 Me! Me! Me! Me!
  147. 8:57 Okay, boys, we've got a clue.
  148. 8:59 The bullet they took out of Burns.
  149. 9:02 Now, let's discuss the, um, Moe-tive.
  150. 9:07 Mr. Burns is the richest man in town. Maybe it's about money.
  151. 9:11 That's some good thinking, Lou. Thanks, Chief.
  152. 9:13 Hey, I said that. My name is Lisa Simpson,
  153. 9:16 and I made a chart of all the suspects in the Burns case.
  154. 9:18 Look.
  155. 9:19 Mr. Burns hurt all these people financially.
  156. 9:22 Nightclub owner Moe Sislak. His bar was closed because of Burns' negligence.
  157. 9:26 Liquor connoisseur Barney Gumbel. When Moe's closed,
  158. 9:29 Barney lost his only means of support, sucking coins out of the love tester machine.
  159. 9:34 That's a real good way to get sick.
  160. 9:36 Dedicated educator principal Seymour Skinner.
  161. 9:38 His school lost millions when Burns pirated its oil well.
  162. 9:42 And grounds tender groundskeeper Willie.
  163. 9:43 He lost his job and his dream of owning a fine crystal slop bucket.
  164. 9:48 Hey, what about that jazz teacher that got laid off?
  165. 9:50 You know, uh, Mr.
  166. 9:51 Sambas and your mambo, what was it? Tito Puente?
  167. 9:54 Yeah.
  168. 9:55 Well, he did vow revenge.
  169. 9:57 But I can't see him doing something illegal.
  170. 10:00 He's in show business. He's a celebrity.
  171. 10:02 Let's roll, boys.
  172. 10:07 Revenge? Of course.
  173. 10:09 But why wound his body with bullets when I cassette his soul of fire with a slanderous
  174. 10:13 mumble?
  175. 10:14 Listen, if you will, to my revenge. Uno, dos, tres.
  176. 10:19 One last song, but an insulting song,
  177. 10:23 Burns will always carry with him.
  178. 10:28 So I'll settle my score on the salsa floor,
  179. 10:32 with this vengeful Latin rhythm.
  180. 10:37 Burns,
  181. 10:41 con el corazón de perro, Señor Burns.
  182. 10:48 El diablo con dinero It
  183. 10:54 may not surprise you But all of us despise you Please die
  184. 10:59 and fry in hell You
  185. 11:05 rotten rich Oh,
  186. 11:09 wretch Adios, viejo
  187. 11:17 Yeah, okay, okay, I believe you're innocent Gee,
  188. 11:22 I hope all those suspects are as much fun
  189. 11:25 Hmm
  190. 11:27 No
  191. 11:30 Let
  192. 11:32 Let me
  193. 11:34 Let me think Oh Now I did,
  194. 11:38 I did go to the town meeting With the intention of ambushing Mr.
  195. 11:41 Burns When it adjourned I rushed to the lavatory to apply my camouflage
  196. 11:47 makeup.
  197. 11:48 Blast! I took mother's makeup kit by mistake.
  198. 11:51 Oh, excuse me, ma'am.
  199. 11:53 Superintendent Chalmers.
  200. 11:55 Oh, my God.
  201. 11:58 So Superintendent Chalmers can vouch for your whereabouts?
  202. 12:01 Oh, yes.
  203. 12:02 But anything else he tells you is a filthy lie.
  204. 12:04 I'm telling you, I could nay have shot Burns.
  205. 12:11 This is your last warning about that? It's impossible for me to fire a pistol.
  206. 12:15 If you'll check my medical records,
  207. 12:18 you'll see I have a crippling arthritis in my index fingers.
  208. 12:22 Look at them!
  209. 12:23 I got it from Space Invaders in 1977.
  210. 12:27 Oh, yeah, that was a pretty addictive video game.
  211. 12:29 Video game?
  212. 12:30 Did you hold a grudge against Montgomery Burns?
  213. 12:32 No.
  214. 12:33 All right, maybe I did, but I didn't shoot him.
  215. 12:36 Checks out.
  216. 12:37 Okay, sir, you're free to go. Good, because I got a hot date tonight.
  217. 12:41 Odd date.
  218. 12:42 Dinner with friends. Dinner alone.
  219. 12:44 Watching TV alone.
  220. 12:46 All right.
  221. 12:47 I'm going to sit at home and ogle the ladies in the Victoria's Secret catalog.
  222. 12:52 See his catalog.
  223. 12:53 Now, would you unhook this already, please?
  224. 12:55 I don't deserve this kind of shabby treatment.
  225. 12:58 Grandpa, I found your cigar box dug up in the backyard, but the gun wasn't there.
  226. 13:02 Have you seen it? You accuse me of everything around here.
  227. 13:06 Who put slippers in the dishwasher?
  228. 13:08 Who threw a cane at the TV? Who fell into the china hutch?
  229. 13:14 I was just asking if you'd seen it.
  230. 13:16 There's no need to be a prickly pear.
  231. 13:19 Oh, you're the bee's knees, baby.
  232. 13:21 I missed you bad.
  233. 13:23 Were you talking to me, Grandpa?
  234. 13:25 Um, yes.
  235. 13:29 We're still not close.
  236. 13:30 Boy, this is gonna be an all-night brain buster.
  237. 13:34 Better drink some coffee.
  238. 13:37 We're out of coffee. Ah, well, I'll just drink this warm cream.
  239. 13:48 Oh.
  240. 13:57 He'll eat the clues!
  241. 14:05 This suit Burns better.
  242. 14:09 Look.
  243. 14:11 Better.
  244. 14:12 Look.
  245. 14:14 Burns suit.
  246. 14:16 I'm not following you. Burns' suit.
  247. 14:19 Burns' suit.
  248. 14:22 Huh?
  249. 14:23 Look at Burns' suit.
  250. 14:25 Yeesh.
  251. 14:26 Ha, ha, ha.
  252. 14:28 I had an idea, Chief.
  253. 14:29 How do we check out that suit Burns was wearing when he got shot?
  254. 14:32 Did you have the same backwards talking dream with the flaming cards?
  255. 14:35 I'll try.
  256. 14:40 Eureka!
  257. 14:44 Ooh, nice eyelash. Yours?
  258. 14:46 No, we need to find out who it belonged to.
  259. 14:48 We want a DNA test. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, that takes eight to ten weeks.
  260. 14:54 Did I say weeks? Because I meant seconds.
  261. 14:59 What do you got, the whole town's DNA on file?
  262. 15:02 Yeah, huh.
  263. 15:02 If you've ever handled a penny, the government's got your DNA.
  264. 15:05 Why do you think they keep them in circulation?
  265. 15:07 Scan's finished.
  266. 15:08 Now it's gonna narrow it down to the family bloodline.
  267. 15:15 Homer Simpson!
  268. 15:16 Dingo.
  269. 15:17 The gunman has a name-o. Chief! Chief! Chief!
  270. 15:27 Hey, Chief Wiggum, what are you doing? What's going on?
  271. 15:30 I'm sorry, kid. We got Simpson DNA on Burns' clothing,
  272. 15:33 and your father was identified by the old man himself.
  273. 15:37 DNA, positive ID. Those won't hold up in any court.
  274. 15:40 Run, Dad!
  275. 15:41 Hey, ho!
  276. 15:42 Look what I found under Mr. Simpson's car seat.
  277. 15:46 I swear, I've never seen that gun before!
  278. 15:49 Didn't wear your fingerprints all over it, sir.
  279. 15:56 This bullet matches the one we took out of Burns.
  280. 15:59 Homer Simpson, you're under arrest for attempted murder.
  281. 16:02 Doe!
  282. 16:03 Yeah, that's what they all say.
  283. 16:05 They all say doe.
  284. 16:14 Yeah, we need two cups of coffee and two orders of bite-sized breakfast pancakes.
  285. 16:18 With extra dipping sauce. Please pull up to the service window, please.
  286. 16:22 The wagon's too tall. Oh, I don't want to have to get out.
  287. 16:26 I'll just drive up on a curb.
  288. 16:32 Blug.
  289. 16:33 Almost got it. Drop the food, Chief.
  290. 16:40 Fools.
  291. 16:40 Drive-through's not for the parking.
  292. 16:50 Diane, I'm going to take my break now.
  293. 16:54 Hi, everybody.
  294. 16:56 Ho, Miss Simp, son.
  295. 16:58 Okay, that was a little strange.
  296. 17:01 Tell me, how are you feeling today?
  297. 17:03 Homer.
  298. 17:04 Simpson, Homer.
  299. 17:05 Oh, Simpson.
  300. 17:07 That seems to be all you can say.
  301. 17:10 When you were in that coma, did you feel your brain getting damaged?
  302. 17:15 The police have such a strong case against Homer.
  303. 17:17 Mr. Burns said he did it. They have Homer's DNA.
  304. 17:20 They have Simpson DNA.
  305. 17:22 It could have come from any of us. Except you, since you're a Bouvier.
  306. 17:25 No, no, no. When I took your father's name, I took everything that came with it,
  307. 17:29 including DNA.
  308. 17:30 Okay, Mom.
  309. 17:32 Anyway, my point is, the evidence isn't as concrete as it seems.
  310. 17:36 Like those fingerprints.
  311. 17:37 They could have gotten on the gun some other way.
  312. 17:41 Are you sure you don't want me to hold one of your ice cream cones?
  313. 17:44 Yeah, right. You chose fruit. You live with fruit.
  314. 17:47 No, no, no.
  315. 17:52 You!
  316. 17:53 Why is this on the floor?
  317. 17:56 We don't even know whose gun that was.
  318. 17:58 Maybe somebody planted it there to frame Dad.
  319. 18:02 No, we can't start thinking that way about our own family members.
  320. 18:06 Suspicion could tear us apart.
  321. 18:08 That's right.
  322. 18:09 We all gotta stick together if we're gonna have any hope of bringing that awful Homer
  323. 18:15 to justice.
  324. 18:17 Here is a photo of the fugitive from our files.
  325. 18:21 And now Waylon Smithers,
  326. 18:22 who's been a real good sport about that wrongful arrest thing,
  327. 18:27 has a statement that he would like to make, Waylon.
  328. 18:29 Thank you.
  329. 18:31 As Montgomery Burns' closest friend,
  330. 18:32 I'm certain that there is nothing he would want more than swift,
  331. 18:35 brutal revenge against Homer Simpson.
  332. 18:37 Therefore, I am offering a $50,000 reward for his capture.
  333. 18:42 Dead or alive. Holy cow! Me first! Me first!
  334. 18:46 Homer Simpson?
  335. 18:47 So, you finally learned my name, eh?
  336. 18:51 Homer Simpson?
  337. 18:52 I've got no time for your demented parlor games.
  338. 18:55 You won't be telling anyone else that Homer Simpson shot you.
  339. 19:03 The scene of the crime.
  340. 19:05 There must be something here that can clear Dad.
  341. 19:08 Clue! Clue!
  342. 19:10 That's it?
  343. 19:11 Oh, Mr. Pigeon, I'd kiss you if you weren't swimming with disease.
  344. 19:27 So the DNA was right.
  345. 19:28 It must have been...
  346. 19:30 Oh, dead!
  347. 19:31 Intentional units. Homer Simpson has been cited.
  348. 19:33 Proceeded once to Marvin Monroe Memorial Hospital.
  349. 19:39 Be careful when we capture him.
  350. 19:41 We cannot claim the reward unless we have 51% of the carcass.
  351. 19:52 Stop!
  352. 19:53 Don't shoot my dad!
  353. 19:56 He's innocent!
  354. 19:57 He wouldn't hurt a fly!
  355. 20:00 Stop telling him it was me!
  356. 20:02 I'll kill you for saying it was me!
  357. 20:06 What is the meaning of this?
  358. 20:09 Smithers, who is this beast that's shaking me?
  359. 20:12 No!
  360. 20:15 Say it burns!
  361. 20:17 Say I never shot you!
  362. 20:19 Before.
  363. 20:20 Shot?
  364. 20:21 By you, I'm afraid not, my primitive friend.
  365. 20:24 Your kind is neither the cranial capacity nor the opposable digits to operate a firearm.
  366. 20:29 The one who shot me was...
  367. 20:35 Maggie Simpson!
  368. 20:38 With the sunblocker in place and the town aghast, I was on top of the world.
  369. 20:44 So I wanted to kick up my heels and indulge my sweet tooth.
  370. 20:48 I feel like celebrating.
  371. 20:52 Oh, it's you. What are you so happy about?
  372. 20:56 I see.
  373. 21:00 Yes.
  374. 21:02 That's the one.
  375. 21:03 Smithers had thwarted my earlier attempt to take candy from a baby.
  376. 21:06 But with him out of the picture, I was free to wallow in my own crapulence.
  377. 21:11 Well, I think you'd better drop it. But the old axiom was misleading.
  378. 21:15 Taking the candy proved exceedingly difficult.
  379. 21:17 I said drop it.
  380. 21:30 Stricken, I lurched forth in search of aid.
  381. 21:33 But finding only slack-jawed gawkers, I gave up and collapsed on the sundial.
  382. 21:38 Then with your last ounce of strength, you pointed to W and S.
  383. 21:44 Or, from your point of view, M and S.
  384. 21:48 Maggie Simpson.
  385. 21:49 What?
  386. 21:50 No.
  387. 21:51 With my last ounce of strength, I sucked out my cold fillings and swallowed them.
  388. 21:55 Those paramedics have sticky fingers. Well,
  389. 21:58 I'm just relieved that Homer's safe and that you've recovered and we can all get back to
  390. 22:02 normal.
  391. 22:03 If Maggie could talk, I'm sure she'd apologize for shooting you.
  392. 22:06 I'm afraid that's insufficient.
  393. 22:07 Officer?
  394. 22:09 Arrest the baby.
  395. 22:11 Yeah, right, Pops. No jury in the world's gonna convict a baby.
  396. 22:16 Maybe Texas. Besides, she didn't mean it.
  397. 22:19 It was an accident.
  398. 23:07 guitar solo
  399. 23:11 Shh.
