What happens

A man in a blue cap and orange shirt climbs a ladder beside the Springfield Civic Center sign, which reads 'Tonight: Charity Bachelor Auction' and 'Tomorrow: I Retire, Ya Bastards!', and he reaches up to the lettering before climbing down so the ladder stands empty. The scene then cuts to the auditorium, where a man in a dark suit stands at a podium on a stage before a packed, seated crowd, with a 'REJECTS' sign on the left wall.
