What happens

Krusty the Clown stands in a doorway in his clown makeup, holding a small white card in one white-gloved hand and a red phone receiver to his ear with the other, while his eyes shift and his expression sours. Around him, in separate panels, Milhouse with blue hair and glasses talks on a phone while holding a card, a reddish-haired man with swept-back hair smokes a cigarette on a phone beside a green lamp, Apu talks on a blue phone while holding a card near a blue bottle, and Homer, slumped in a green armchair, listens on a phone with a bored look. The phone calls appear to be happening at the same time, with the panels showing the characters' reactions as the call goes on.
