About the episode

While Homer treats Marge to a day spa, a run of bad luck and a messy house lead the Child Welfare Agency to remove Bart, Lisa and Maggie and place them with Ned and Maude Flanders next door. Homer and Marge attend a parenting class to win them back, racing to the Springfield River when Ned, dismayed that the kids were never baptized, tries to baptize them himself.

  16. 1:23 That way, the lettuce stays moist and the bread stays dry.
  17. 1:27 Huh? Huh?
  18. 1:28 Huh? Mom, you fuss over us way too much.
  19. 1:31 Enjoy it now, because when you're a grown-up, you'll have to take care of yourself.
  20. 1:35 Marge, there's a spider near my car key.
  21. 1:39 You did the right thing by telling me.
  22. 1:42 Shoot, get out of here.
  23. 1:45 Ah, that's better.
  24. 1:47 Now that we're alone, Papa Bear has a little honey for his mama bear.

  26. 1:58 Mineral bath, facial massage. How did you afford these?
  27. 2:02 Oh, never you mind.
  28. 2:09 What advantages does this motorcar have over, say, a train?
  29. 2:14 Which I could also afford. Well,
  30. 2:16 you'll notice how the heated gas pedal warms your feet well.
  31. 2:22 I can't really massage your buttocks.
  32. 2:24 Well, Count Homer, shall we discuss the...
  33. 2:27 No, we shan't.
  34. 2:28 Yoink!
  35. 2:31 Homie, this is so sweet. But I can't possibly go now.
  36. 2:35 The sink is full of dirty dishes. The trash needs to be taken out.
  37. 2:38 The living room is a mess. Oh, we'll clean up this afternoon.
  38. 2:41 What about Maggie? I got my dad to look after her.
  39. 2:44 Behind ya!
  40. 2:46 Don't do that!
  41. 2:49 Come on, honey. You work yourself stupid for this family.
  42. 2:53 If anyone deserves to be wrapped up in seaweed and buried in mud, it's you.
  43. 2:58 Well, all right. But I'm taking some of the ironing with me in the car.
  44. 3:07 Tighten those braids, Missy.
  45. 3:08 Hoist your flag, Dooley.
  46. 3:10 Nelson, you look adorable.
  47. 3:13 I feel like punching myself.
  48. 3:15 Bart, stop scratching. You're messing up your hair.
  49. 3:19 Ah! Lice! How on earth does a boy get head lice in this day and age?
  50. 3:24 We bought a wicker basket from Pair One, and he was passed out inside.
  51. 3:32 Hey, how come I get lice and nothing happens to Milhouse?
  52. 3:35 Oh, so cold.
  53. 3:38 So very, very cold.
  54. 3:42 See you in hell, you wingless bloodsuckers.
  55. 3:49 What kind of parents would permit such a lapse in scalpel hygiene?
  56. 3:53 Well, you better check out his sister. She could be right with them big sticks.
  57. 3:58 Hey, come on. Those are prescription shoes.
  58. 4:04 I need them.
  59. 4:05 You have cooties. You have cooties. No, I don't.
  60. 4:10 Lisa Simpson, report to the principal's office for head life inspections.

  64. 4:25 Principal Skinner, I need some shoes.
  65. 4:28 Sweet Georgia Brown, something is rotten at the Simpson house.
  66. 4:42 This is so relaxing.
  67. 4:46 Homie, this was a wonderful idea.
  68. 4:50 Yeah.
  69. 4:51 If that mafia guy weren't staring at us, I'd take off my towel.
  70. 4:55 Oh, don't mind me.
  71. 4:57 Look, I do it first.
  72. 5:03 Whoa, would you look at this place?
  73. 5:05 Sink full of dirty dishes, trash not taken out, living room a mess,
  74. 5:10 stacks of old newspapers from 20 years ago.
  75. 5:13 Get ready, gamblers, for the World Series of Dog Raising.
  76. 5:20 What the heck?
  77. 5:22 A disheveled and malnourished man found sleeping in his own filth seems confused and
  78. 5:28 dehydrated. Where's the baby? Well, that's her, ain't it?
  79. 5:33 Kids love that water.
  80. 5:35 Oh, my lord.
  81. 5:37 Stupid babies need the most attention.
  82. 5:39 All is well.
  83. 5:41 All is well. Turn tape over.
  84. 5:49 All is well.
  85. 5:59 Children, where are your parents?
  86. 6:02 I don't know.
  87. 6:03 They should be here.
  88. 6:04 Yes, they should be here.
  89. 6:07 Those parents better have a good excuse.
  90. 6:12 Oh, I love getting away from this dump.
  91. 6:15 It's like I'm on some wonderful drug.
  92. 6:19 What's going on here? Child welfare, ma'am.
  93. 6:22 Here's a little bedtime reading.
  94. 6:26 Squalid hellhole?
  95. 6:28 Toilet paper hung in improper overhand fashion Dogs mating on dining room table
  96. 6:35 What are you doing with my children?
  97. 6:38 We're taking them where you can't get them What?
  98. 6:40 No!
  99. 6:41 You can't! I won't let you! Mrs. Simpson, restrain yourself or you'll be arrested
  100. 6:54 Now just relax,
  101. 6:55 kids All we're doing is taking you to a foster home.
  102. 7:06 Hey, Lee-ho.
  103. 7:08 Welcome to your new home, Neglect-a-renos.
  104. 7:13 Kids, meet your new foster family. We love you.
  105. 7:18 Uh, please don't hug me.
  106. 7:20 It sickens me. I don't judge Homer and Marge.
  107. 7:23 That's for a vengeful God to do. Mm-hmm.
  108. 7:25 All we want to do is give your kids a good home until they get their act together.
  109. 7:29 You don't understand. Mom and Dad take good care of us.
  110. 7:33 That was a baby tooth.
  111. 7:36 It was loose!
  112. 7:37 Don't you worry, little girl. We'll get you some nice county dentures.
  113. 7:48 Parents are not to communicate with children and must stay at least 100 feet away at all
  114. 7:53 times. We leave you the kids for three hours and the county takes them away?
  115. 7:58 Oh, bitch, bitch, bitch!
  116. 8:01 I can't believe I put my own pleasure ahead of my home and family.
  117. 8:05 That is so like me.
  118. 8:07 Oh, Marge, don't blame yourself.
  119. 8:09 I'm the terrible parent.
  120. 8:11 The boy bugs the hell out of me. I can't help Lisa with her homework.
  121. 8:14 The only thing I'm fit to take care of is a houseplant.
  122. 8:19 Lousy houseplant! You son of a... I'll teach you to jump!
  123. 8:24 You!
  124. 8:34 Go with it!
  125. 8:36 Here you go, Todd.
  126. 8:38 The City Edition.
  127. 8:41 Art, I don't know if this should be an extra.
  128. 8:43 Is your source on this reliable?
  129. 8:46 Oh, I hate this place. Yeah, it seems like our house,
  130. 8:49 but everything's got a creepy Pat Boonish quality to it.
  131. 8:53 Hey kids, nachos Flanders style. That's cucumbers with cottage cheese.
  132. 9:02 Oh Bart, I know you're still getting adjusted here.
  133. 9:04 Tell you what, we'll do whatever you want to do.
  134. 9:08 Watch itchy and scratchy. Well, I guess a little television won't hurt.
  135. 9:12 I used to let the boys watch my three sons, but it got them all worked up before bedtime.
  136. 9:49 Why? Why?
  137. 9:52 My only son.
  138. 10:03 Daddy, what's the red stuff coming out of Kitty's ears?
  139. 10:07 Uh, that's just raspberry jam.
  140. 10:10 Dad, should I poke Rod with a sharp thing like the mouse did?
  141. 10:13 No, son.
  142. 10:15 No-sure-y-bob.
  143. 10:19 Can you see them? I can see Lisa, but it might be a starfish.
  144. 10:25 I gotta call him!
  145. 10:28 The number you have dialed can no longer be reached from this phone.
  146. 10:33 You, negligent monster.
  147. 10:36 That's it. We're going downtown to get our kids back.
  148. 10:39 Right now!
  149. 10:42 We've always tried to be good parents. Please!
  150. 10:45 I'm begging you, one mother to another. You must have a family.
  151. 10:49 No, I don't care for children.
  152. 10:51 No, wait a minute.
  153. 10:53 Okay, I'm not going to win father of the year.
  154. 10:56 In fact, I'm probably the last guy in the world who should have kids.
  155. 11:00 Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, wait, can I start again?
  156. 11:03 Fathering children is the best part of my day.
  157. 11:06 I'd do anything for Bart and Lisa.
  158. 11:07 And Margaret?
  159. 11:09 Who?
  160. 11:09 Lady, you got the wrong file. It's Maggie.
  161. 11:12 Oh, Maggie. I got nothing against Maggie.
  162. 11:14 I can see you sincerely want your children back.
  163. 11:17 But you have a lot to learn about being parents.
  164. 11:20 Before I can return your children, you'll have to complete a course called Family Skills.
  165. 11:25 It teaches parents to listen to their...
  166. 11:27 Communication, gotcha. But it's important to...
  167. 11:29 Listen, yes, I know. But there's more to it than...
  168. 11:31 I have listening skills. Mr. Simpson, would you please...
  169. 11:33 Shut up, Judge.
  170. 11:35 Peek-a-boo, I see you.
  171. 11:42 We've never heard Maggie laugh like that before.
  172. 11:44 Well, when was the last time Dad gave her that kind of attention?
  173. 11:48 Well, she swallowed that quarter. He spent all day with her.
  174. 11:50 I thought I could ride this thing out, but everything's just too weird here.
  175. 11:54 I know.
  176. 11:54 They put honey on their pancakes instead of maple syrup.
  177. 11:57 And they read Newsweek instead of nothing.
  178. 11:59 Come on, you gloomy gussies. Who's up for a big bowl of nonfat ice milk?
  179. 12:03 I want wintergreen!
  180. 12:05 Unflavored for me.
  181. 12:08 And then I saw my boy in a burlap sack, and they told me he had lice.
  182. 12:14 Is this story going somewhere?
  183. 12:15 All right, easy there, Flub. We're all going to get a chance.
  184. 12:19 Mrs. Skinner, why are you here? The county is threatening to take my Seymour away.
  185. 12:24 Oh, we had another fight over the inflatable bath pillow.
  186. 12:28 I kept screeching and screeching at him, but...
  187. 12:31 All right, very good.
  188. 12:32 Now, who knows how the Skinners could have resolved this problem?
  189. 12:36 Without resorting to violence.
  190. 12:38 Or childish name-calling.
  191. 12:41 Anybody?
  192. 12:42 Okay, that's okay.
  193. 12:43 Because making a happy home isn't like flipping on a light switch.
  194. 12:47 The light switch?
  195. 12:49 There are a lot of little tricks to it, things you should have learned a long time ago.
  196. 12:52 Such as, if you leave milk out, it can go sour.
  197. 12:56 Put it in the refrigerator, or failing that, a cool wet sack.
  198. 13:02 And put your garbage in a garbage can, people.
  199. 13:05 I can't stress that enough. Don't just throw it out the window.
  200. 13:08 This is so humiliating.
  201. 13:10 Garbage in garbage can.
  202. 13:13 Hmm, makes sense.
  203. 13:14 Nighty-night, my sweet little foundling-a-dings.
  204. 13:17 But it's only 7 o'clock. Yeah, the sun is still out.
  205. 13:23 Aww.
  206. 13:29 They say your folks can't pay the rent, so we're watching you by act of government.
  207. 13:35 Well, I don't know if the allegations are true, but you got us, and baby,
  208. 13:41 we got you.
  209. 13:43 Babe, we got you, babe
  210. 13:47 You know,
  211. 13:48 Maggie hasn't been a Simpson as long as us I think she's beginning to forget Mom and Dad
  212. 13:53 Remember how Mom used to microwave our underwear on cold days?
  213. 13:57 Or the way Dad used to call the radio station with fake traffic tips?
  214. 14:05 They're ten feet away and we can't even talk to them I wish I could tell them how much I
  215. 14:09 miss them
  216. 14:19 It's so quiet here without the kids What I wouldn't give to hear Lisa play another one
  217. 14:25 of her jazzy tunes
  218. 14:30 Seximophone, seximophone
  219. 14:32 I miss the way Bart would say something and then say dude I
  220. 14:38 wish I knew something about the baby I could miss now.
  221. 14:41 You mean Maggie?
  222. 14:42 That's it.
  223. 14:43 We've never been separated from the kids for so long.
  224. 14:46 I don't know how much more I can take.
  225. 14:49 That's Bart's ring!
  226. 15:03 Todd smells.
  227. 15:04 Oh, I already knew that. Look at the other side!
  228. 15:17 Okay, let's see if we've learned anything.
  229. 15:19 I want you two to simulate a typical household problem.
  230. 15:23 Go!
  231. 15:23 Papa, I cut myself on this green door again.
  232. 15:27 Why you cotton picking?
  233. 15:37 No, I gotta pass this class for my kids.
  234. 15:40 Son, let's stop the fussing and the feud.
  235. 15:43 I love you, Paul!
  236. 15:45 I love you, Cleetus!
  237. 15:54 Well, children, it's Saturday night,
  238. 15:56 so what say we let our hair down and play bombardment?
  239. 15:59 Yay!
  240. 16:01 Of Bible questions!
  241. 16:02 Yay!
  242. 16:04 Which version shall it be? St. James!
  243. 16:06 The Vulgate of St. Jerome.
  244. 16:09 Vulgate it is.
  245. 16:10 Okay, for one gold star, what Persian king exempted the Levites from taxation?
  246. 16:16 Attaxerxes!
  247. 16:17 Rightio!
  248. 16:26 Well?
  249. 16:27 I know!
  250. 16:28 No, son, we gotta let Bart and Lisa get one.
  251. 16:31 Come on, this one's easy.
  252. 16:35 We give up. Well, guess.
  253. 16:37 Book of Revelations, fire-breathing lion's head, tail made out of snakes.
  254. 16:40 Who else is it gonna be?
  255. 16:42 Jesus?
  256. 16:46 Don't you kids know anything?
  257. 16:48 The serpent of Rehoboam?
  258. 16:50 The well of Zohassadar?
  259. 16:52 The bridal feast of Beth-Chad-Ruharazeb?
  260. 16:55 Wait, that's the kind of thing you should start learning at baptism.
  261. 16:58 Um, actually, you see, we are never baptized.
  262. 17:06 Oh, Nettie!
  263. 17:07 Nettie!
  264. 17:12 No, that ain't gonna do it.
  265. 17:15 I'm very proud of you people. You've learned how to care for your children,
  266. 17:19 how to maintain your homes, and you've all passed a drug test.
  267. 17:22 Except for Marge. Marge, you tested positive for crack and PCP.
  268. 17:26 Oh, my.
  269. 17:28 Okay, the retest says you're clean. Sorry about the mistake.
  270. 17:31 The only thing I'm high on is love. Love for my son and daughters.
  271. 17:36 Yes, a little LSD is all I need. All right, sounds very good.
  272. 17:47 Jeepers, eight crackers.
  273. 17:48 I better call a reverend.
  274. 17:53 Ned Flanders is on the phone.
  275. 17:55 Hello, Ned.
  276. 17:57 Reverend, emergency.
  277. 17:59 I... You see, Simpson kids, Italy.
  278. 18:01 I... Baptism... Doodly, doodly, doodly! Ned,
  279. 18:05 have you thought about one of the other major religions?
  280. 18:08 They're all pretty much the same.
  281. 18:11 Oh, them Flanders.
  282. 18:15 Looks like I'm gonna have to baptize you myself.
  283. 18:25 Kids, we're good parents now!
  284. 18:28 Get your asses out here! We missed you so much!
  285. 18:34 He's going to baptize our children?
  286. 18:37 Oh, no.
  287. 18:38 In the eyes of God, they'll be Flanderesses.
  288. 18:42 Until this, I never thought Homer and Marge were bad parents,
  289. 18:44 but now I know you kids need a less hellbound family.
  290. 18:48 Just sit back, and before you know it, you'll be part of the Flanders flock.
  291. 18:54 You're gonna be Lisa Flanders.
  292. 18:56 You're gonna be Bart Flanders.
  293. 18:58 Oh, relax, Bart.
  294. 19:00 Your sister Maggie isn't scared. That's because she can't talk.
  295. 19:07 Doodly doodly.
  296. 19:11 Where are we going? Where are we going?
  297. 19:13 Okay, okay, don't panic.
  298. 19:15 To find Flanders, I just have to think like Flanders.
  299. 19:18 I'm a big four-eyed lame-o,
  300. 19:20 and I wear the same stupid sweater every day in the Springfield River!
  301. 19:23 I once was lost,
  302. 19:28 but now am found Was blind,
  303. 19:33 but now I see
  304. 19:37 Today we write a new page in the Flanders Family Bible
  305. 19:44 Who wants to be the first to enter God's good graces?
  306. 19:49 Easy, easy
  307. 19:54 Oh, why do you hate my trains?
  308. 20:18 You reject Satan and all his empty promises.
  309. 20:44 Wow, Dad, you took a baptismal for me. How do you feel?
  310. 20:48 Oh, Bartholomew, I feel like St.
  311. 20:50 Augustine of Hippo after his conversion by Ambrose of Milan.
  312. 20:54 Wait, Homer, what did you just say? I said shut your ugly face, Flanders!
  313. 20:58 Oh, fair enough.
  314. 21:00 Oh, there's my sweet little Maggie.
  315. 21:25 Oh, Maggie, you're a Simpson again.
  316. 21:37 So what was it like at the Flanders' house?
  317. 21:39 Yeah, give me all the dirt.
  318. 21:41 Let's see.
  319. 21:41 Dirt.
  320. 21:43 Well, there wasn't really much dirt.
  321. 21:45 There was a bunch of old paint cans in their garage, though.
  322. 21:48 Ha-ha-ha-ha!
  323. 21:50 Old pain he can, Ned.
  324. 21:54 I always knew he'd keep his own tears of pain.
  325. 21:59 I like that.
  326. 22:41 Shh.
