About the episode

Former President George Bush and his wife Barbara move into the empty house across the street from the Simpsons. 14. 1:01 Oh, wait. There he is.
  15. 1:05 Oh, Marge, I'm bored. Why don't you read something?
  16. 1:08 Because I'm trying to reduce my boredom.
  17. 1:11 Well, you could hand out these flyers for the neighborhood rummage sale.
  18. 1:14 You get some fresh air and exercise.
  19. 1:17 Yeah, I'll do it anyway.
  20. 1:18 Come on, boy, we're going to see the neighbors.

  32. 2:03 Well, ready for the big rummage sale?
  33. 2:05 Oh, yes, indeed.
  34. 2:06 I've got nothing but time until they fix that malfunctioning squishy machine.
  35. 2:20 Hey, I never noticed this place.
  36. 2:23 Dad, it's right across the street from us.
  37. 2:26 That fancy house will never sell.
  38. 2:28 Nobody who could afford it would want to live in this neighborhood.
  39. 2:31 Hey, what's wrong with this neighborhood?
  40. 2:32 What?
  41. 2:33 Big shot!
  42. 2:34 Too good to buy a house here, snobby! Who are you talking to, Homer?
  43. 2:38 The guy who doesn't live there.
  44. 2:39 Can we get rid of this Ayatollah t-shirt?
  45. 2:42 Khomeini died years ago.
  46. 2:44 But Marge, it works on any Ayatollah.
  47. 2:47 Ayatollah Nachpada?
  48. 2:48 Ayatollah's a Haiti?
  49. 2:49 Even as we speak,
  50. 2:50 Ayatollah Razmara and his cadre of fanatics are consolidating their power.
  51. 2:54 I don't care who's consolidating their power.
  52. 2:57 Well, we don't need this. Butch!
  53. 2:59 Marge! That's the rhinestone knight's fashion gun!
  54. 3:02 I needed to rhinestone up my old clothing.
  55. 3:05 Who's Disco Stew?
  56. 3:06 Oh, I wanted to write Disco Stud, but I ran out of space.
  57. 3:09 Not that Disco Stew didn't get his share of the action.
  58. 3:17 So,
  59. 3:17 if you're looking for a half bag of charcoal briquettes or an artificial Christmas tree,
  60. 3:21 trunk only, come on over to the Hibbert table, pronto.
  61. 3:25 Well, sir, looks like we got some nice items here at Table Glick.
  62. 3:28 Like this. What the heck-a-roony is this, Mrs.
  63. 3:31 Glick? It is a candy dish, Ned. Ninety dollars.
  64. 3:34 Uh-huh.
  65. 3:34 Well, I guess you could put a lot of nice things in there.
  66. 3:38 No, just candy, Ned.
  67. 3:40 Ninety dollars.
  68. 3:45 Well, looks like somebody sold something today.
  69. 3:50 Are you interested in that motorized tie rack, Principal Skinner?
  70. 3:57 It's awfully loud. Well,
  71. 3:59 you can always take the motor out and use it as an ordinary tie rack.
  72. 4:04 But now the ties are motionless.
  73. 4:06 Nose and back are virtually inaccessible.
  74. 4:08 Well, it's a moot point as I have only one tie to begin with.
  75. 4:12 I believe I'll pass.
  76. 4:15 Have you sold that tie rack yet? No.
  77. 4:17 I'll take it.
  78. 4:18 Now, folks, nothing spells fun like rhinestones on a dungaree jacket.
  79. 4:23 Stu, you should buy that. Hey, Disco Stew doesn't advertise.
  80. 4:29 Uh, hey, Ned, let me help you with that.
  81. 4:32 Hey, everybody, who thinks Flanders should shut up?
  82. 4:37 So, anyone here from Evergreen Terrace?
  83. 4:42 I think this is the best neighborhood in town.
  84. 4:45 Anybody agree with me?
  85. 4:47 You're the king, Homer, king of the neighborhood.
  86. 4:51 Say, that Ayatollah thinks he's better than America.
  87. 4:55 Is he right? No!
  88. 4:58 Yes.
  89. 4:59 Well, for only $5, you can suck it to him in style.
  90. 5:03 Right here.
  91. 5:04 And for the man who has everything, a tie rack motor.
  92. 5:09 I'll take that.
  93. 5:15 Hey, big spender, dig this blender.
  94. 5:19 Rainbow suspenders Hey,
  95. 5:22 big spender We surrender
  96. 5:28 Spend some dough at table three
  97. 5:38 Thank you, neighbors,
  98. 5:41 thank you Now let's give it up for table five Ah!
  99. 5:47 Ah!
  100. 5:48 Ah! Table 5! Table 5! Ah!
  101. 5:51 Ah!
  102. 5:52 Ah! Ah! Table fiiiif!
  103. 6:00 Table 5! Table 5! Table 5!
  104. 6:04 Table 5! Hey!
  105. 6:05 What's the big deal?
  106. 6:06 It's just some new guy movin' in! It's just some new guy movin' in!
  107. 6:09 Ah-ah-ah!
  108. 6:10 Disco stew... Likes disco music!
  109. 6:26 Hi there, neighbors.
  110. 6:28 I'm George Bush.
  111. 6:33 Former President George Bush.
  112. 6:38 Okay, let's give it up for the new guy.
  113. 6:42 Now let's all turn around and pay attention to me again.
  114. 6:46 Hello?
  115. 6:54 Wow, a former president living right across the street.
  116. 6:58 Oh, why did he have to move in on my territory?
  117. 7:01 Look at him. Thinks just because he led the free world he can act like a big shot.
  118. 7:05 Stupid president.
  119. 7:07 Why couldn't he just stay in his own state?
  120. 7:09 Actually, this is one of the nine states where Mr.
  121. 7:11 Bush claims residency, Dad. I wouldn't have voted for him,
  122. 7:15 but it's nice to have a celebrity in the neighborhood.
  123. 7:17 Wait a minute.
  124. 7:18 If Lisa didn't vote for him, and I didn't vote for him...
  125. 7:22 You didn't vote for anybody.
  126. 7:24 I voted for Prow to go back to the old glass bottle.
  127. 7:28 After that, I became deeply cynical.
  128. 7:31 And your business here, Mr. Flanders? Well, sir,
  129. 7:33 I'm welcoming the Bushes on behalf of the Neighborhood Association.
  130. 7:38 Never mind about that, Ray.
  131. 7:39 Just give him a quick pass with a metal detector and let him on in.
  132. 7:42 Hey, Bar, the neighbors are here.
  133. 7:45 Howdly-diddly there, President Bush. Or should I say President Neighbor?
  134. 7:50 I'm Ned Flanders, and this is Maude, Rod, and Todd.
  135. 7:53 And howdly-doodly yourself there, Ned.
  136. 7:55 This is my wife, Barbara.
  137. 7:57 Call her Bar.
  138. 7:58 Would you like some lemonade? Tip top notch.
  139. 8:00 Oakley-dokley. Dankley-dankley.
  140. 8:03 Great delicious.
  141. 8:04 Scrub-diddlerific. Fine and dandy like sour candy.
  142. 8:08 Bar's a whiz with cold drinks, aren't you, Bar?
  143. 8:10 Don't understand lemonade myself. not my forte.
  144. 8:13 What brings you to Springfield?
  145. 8:15 Well, George and I just wanted to be private citizens again.
  146. 8:18 Go where nobody cared about politics.
  147. 8:21 So we found the town with the lowest voter turnout in America.
  148. 8:24 Just happy to be here among good, average people with no particular hopes or dreams.
  149. 8:30 But, Mr. President, we're not all good people.
  150. 8:34 There's one little boy you should watch out for.
  151. 8:36 He's a bad, bad little boy. Ha, ha, ha. Now, Todd, don't scare the president.
  152. 8:56 Look at those phonies sucking up the bush.
  153. 9:03 I guess you might say he's barking up the wrong bush.
  154. 9:09 There it is, homie. The cleverest thing you'll ever say and nobody heard it.
  155. 9:12 Don't!
  156. 9:16 Just gonna relax with my U.S. news and world whatnot.
  157. 9:20 Oh, good.
  158. 9:21 They're roasting the new guy.
  159. 9:24 Hello, Mr.
  160. 9:26 Bush.
  161. 9:27 George, this is a neighborhood boy, Bart Simpson.
  162. 9:31 He came over to say hi.
  163. 9:33 Hello. Hi.
  164. 9:34 Hey, what's this? My electric card shuffler.
  165. 9:37 Don't go near the...
  166. 9:39 Now, I told you.
  167. 9:41 Those cards are from Air Force One, and they only give you so many packs.
  168. 9:45 Oh, George, boys will be boys.
  169. 9:48 Bart's just being friendly.
  170. 9:49 Why don't you get off that sofa and show Bart your photos?
  171. 9:51 Oh, but he'll gunk them all up. His hands are probably covered with mud and cookies.
  172. 9:57 Oh, I probably stole a napkin.
  173. 10:01 Who's that, George? That's me with Charlton Heston.
  174. 10:04 Who's that, George?
  175. 10:05 See, you wouldn't know him. That's Bob Mosbacher.
  176. 10:08 He was secretary of... That's a dumb name.
  177. 10:10 Who's that, George?
  178. 10:11 Maybe he thinks Bart is a dumb... How many times were you president, George?
  179. 10:15 Just once.
  180. 10:16 Bart, isn't it time for dinner yet? I'm making rice.
  181. 10:19 It'll be a while.
  182. 10:21 Did your Secret Service goons ever whack anybody, George?
  183. 10:23 You know, in my day, little boys didn't call their elders by their first names.
  184. 10:29 Yeah, well, welcome to the 20th century, George.
  185. 10:32 I'll kick you right out of the 20th century, you little...
  186. 10:37 Man, I only got one minute till they stop serving those breakfast balls.
  187. 10:41 Don't!
  188. 10:42 Let's see now. What do you folks have here, huh?
  189. 10:45 Hmm, a crusty burger.
  190. 10:47 That doesn't sound too appetizing. What kind of stew do you have today?
  191. 10:50 Uh, we don't have stew.
  192. 10:54 Sir, why don't you just have the cheeseburger?
  193. 10:56 That's really more of a weekend thing, Ray.
  194. 10:59 Hey, jerk!
  195. 11:00 Move your fanny!
  196. 11:01 That guy's louder than World War II. Ray, go see what the rhubarb is, will ya?
  197. 11:07 Sir, could you pop your hood?
  198. 11:11 Hey, my taxes paid for that horn.
  199. 11:15 Why, hello, Mrs. Bush.
  200. 11:16 Hi, Bart.
  201. 11:18 Mr. Bush is upstairs napping.
  202. 11:20 You know, your husband's awful grumpy.
  203. 11:22 Oh, that's just his way. He really likes you.
  204. 11:25 You know, it's time for him to get up and work on his memoirs.
  205. 11:28 Why don't you go wake him?
  206. 11:33 Great Scott, don't touch that. That's the Alpenhorn helmet Cole gave me.
  207. 11:37 Where'd you get those pajamas?
  208. 11:39 They're presidential pajamas. You have to be president.
  209. 11:42 And you're not president. Yes, I am. No, you're not, Bart.
  210. 11:50 Hey, where's your candy? We don't have any.
  211. 11:53 Now go away. George!
  212. 11:56 Older people don't eat much candy, Bart.
  213. 11:58 But I could bake you some cookies if you like.
  214. 12:01 I can't remember the last time she made cookies for me.
  215. 12:04 What's that? Oh, nothing.
  216. 12:07 All right, his story checks out.
  217. 12:09 Marge, would you love me more if I were president?
  218. 12:12 Because I'll do it if it'll make you happy.
  219. 12:14 Homie, as long as you keep the car full of gas, I'm happy.
  220. 12:18 Well, you can always depend on that.
  221. 12:24 And since I'd achieved all my goals as president in one term,
  222. 12:30 There was no need for a second.
  223. 12:35 The end.
  224. 12:38 Mmm, good memoirs.
  225. 12:40 Good, not great.
  226. 12:42 Now, let's look at that old outboard. Soup that baby up,
  227. 12:45 rattle a few windows down in Kennebunkport next May.
  228. 12:49 Hello, Mr. Bush.
  229. 12:55 What you doing?
  230. 12:56 Don't upset the desk there. Careful, don't want to horse around with...
  231. 12:59 Hey, cool.
  232. 13:00 What does this do? Now, don't you pull that cord, young man.
  233. 13:03 Oh, no.
  234. 13:04 Oops.
  235. 13:05 Hey.
  236. 13:06 Bar, my motor's gone loco.
  237. 13:09 Oh, the birdhouse.
  238. 13:11 Yeah, my prize orchid.
  239. 13:23 No, not the memoirs. Don't even think about it.
  240. 13:26 Not gonna happen.
  241. 13:37 Whoa, man. Whoa, nothing.
  242. 13:39 I'm gonna do something your daddy should have done a long time ago.
  243. 13:47 Now go home and think about what you've done, young man.
  244. 13:53 He spanked you?
  245. 13:54 You?
  246. 13:55 Bart Simpson?
  247. 13:57 I begged him to stop, but he said it was for the good of the nation.
  248. 14:00 Big deal! When I was a pup, we got spanked by presidents till the cows came home.
  249. 14:05 Grover Cleveland spanked me on two non-consecutive occasions.
  250. 14:09 Grandpa, I know in your day spanking was common,
  251. 14:12 but Homer and I just don't believe in that kind of punishment.
  252. 14:15 And that's why your no-good kids are running wild!
  253. 14:19 First Bush invades my home turf. Then he takes my pals.
  254. 14:23 Then he makes fun of the way I talk, probably.
  255. 14:25 Now he steals my right to raise a disobedient,
  256. 14:29 smart-alecky son Well, that's it!
  257. 14:34 Hey, Bush!
  258. 14:35 Get out here!
  259. 14:38 Excuse me, sir, where are you going? I'm going to punch George Bush in the face Okay,
  260. 14:43 is he expecting you?
  261. 14:44 You owe me an apology!
  262. 14:46 Hey, you owe me an apology If you were any kind of a father,
  263. 14:49 you'd have disciplined that boy a long time ago You want to step back, sir?
  264. 14:54 You're trampling the flowers. Oh!
  265. 14:56 Hiding behind your coons, eh, Bush?
  266. 14:59 Oh!
  267. 15:00 Well, you are a wimp!
  268. 15:05 Wimp, am I?
  269. 15:07 Agent Johnson, Agent Hint, you men stand down.
  270. 15:15 All right, mister.
  271. 15:17 You want trouble, you're gonna get trouble.
  272. 15:19 Oh, I want trouble, all right. Then you're gonna get trouble.
  273. 15:23 No, you're gonna get trouble. Oh, that's good.
  274. 15:25 That's good, because I want trouble. Then we're agreed there'll be trouble.
  275. 15:29 Oh, yeah. Lots of trouble. Trouble it is!
  276. 15:33 For you.
  277. 15:34 For... Don't!
  278. 15:38 This is gonna be sweet.
  279. 15:40 200 bottle rockets and George Bush doing two touches by an open window.
  280. 15:44 If you get one up his butt, it's a million points.
  281. 15:54 Why don't you just say you're sorry, George?
  282. 15:57 Because I'm right.
  283. 15:58 Oh, no.
  284. 16:00 I'm gonna fix their wagon good. I pulled some pranks in my time.
  285. 16:06 I don't understand.
  286. 16:08 Are you saying you and Barbara are bad neighbors?
  287. 16:11 No, that's not Bar and me. It's them. Who?
  288. 16:14 Mon and me? No, the man and his boy. You know, the boy's name, Bart.
  289. 16:19 I don't know the name of the man. Bar, what's the name of the man?
  290. 16:22 I'm not getting involved, George.
  291. 16:24 Look, just never mind. I thought the banner was pretty straightforward,
  292. 16:27 but I guess I'll just take it down.
  293. 16:30 George, it's time to get dressed.
  294. 16:33 Nuh-uh.
  295. 16:34 I'm going outside today. Not with those neighbors.
  296. 16:36 Staying right here till my speech to the Elks Club.
  297. 16:40 Yoo-hoo!
  298. 16:44 Who is it? It's your sons, George Bush Jr.
  299. 16:47 and Jeb Bush. Come outside, Dad. Oh, good.
  300. 16:50 Bar, the boys are out in the front yard.
  301. 16:52 They'll help me think of a plan to get those Simpsons.
  302. 16:54 Oh, George, is that all you ever think about?
  303. 16:57 The boys probably just want a letter of recommendation.
  304. 17:03 Boys, where are you going?
  305. 17:04 Okay, son, give them the glue.
  306. 17:11 Hey, looking good.
  307. 17:15 And that's why I will continue to oppose teen alcoholism in all
  308. 17:21 its forms.
  309. 17:26 Now, are there any questions?
  310. 17:29 Keeping in mind that I already explained about my hair.
  311. 17:33 Oh, yeah, that's right.
  312. 17:44 President Bush is driving on our lawn.
  313. 17:47 He must be lost.
  314. 17:48 He's not lost. Looks like we're experiencing some blowback from the wig offensive.
  315. 17:53 It's time to hit him where he lives. His house?
  316. 17:56 Bingo.
  317. 18:01 So I thought to myself, what would God do in this situation?
  318. 18:06 Locus, they'll drive him nuts. It's all in the Bible, son.
  319. 18:10 It's the Frankster's Bible.
  320. 18:20 Hmm, can't decide if this will be considered feisty or crazy.
  321. 18:25 Hey, what the...
  322. 18:27 Oh, if he thinks George Bush will stay out of the sewer, he doesn't know George Bush.
  323. 18:34 Hey, turkey's behind ya.
  324. 18:37 For the last time, Bush, apologize for spanking my boy.
  325. 18:40 Never.
  326. 18:41 You make him apologize for destroying my memoirs.
  327. 18:44 You didn't tell me you destroyed his memoirs.
  328. 18:47 Never!
  329. 18:48 Dad!
  330. 19:00 I really feel awful about your lawn, Marge.
  331. 19:04 George can be so stubborn when he thinks he's right.
  332. 19:07 A home or two. There's so much I like. Too bad they got off on the wrong foot.
  333. 19:11 It's just like the Noriega thing.
  334. 19:14 Now he and George are the best of friends.
  335. 19:20 Here's a little something we learned in CIA.
  336. 19:27 Get in, boys.
  337. 19:28 Oh, oh, oh.
  338. 19:36 Hello?
  339. 19:50 I'll ruin you like a Japanese banquet.
  340. 19:53 I'll take your head and... Arbachev, what are you doing here?
  341. 19:59 I just dropped by with presents for warming of house.
  342. 20:02 Instead, find you grappling with local off.
  343. 20:05 Oh, brought some of your commie friends to help you fight dirty, eh?
  344. 20:09 I make highly put a wig on my head.
  345. 20:12 My memoirs got... George, this is the last straw.
  346. 20:15 You apologize to Homer right now. But, Barr,
  347. 20:19 we can't show any weakness in front of the Russians.
  348. 20:22 George.
  349. 20:27 Yes, dear.
  350. 20:29 No, it's not like this.
  351. 20:31 Ha, ha, ha, ha.
  352. 20:33 Okay.
  353. 20:36 I'm sorry I spanked your boy, Homer. Woo-hoo!
  354. 20:39 In your face, Bush!
  355. 20:41 Now apologize for the tax hike.
  356. 20:48 It's a shame it didn't work out, Marge,
  357. 20:51 but George just felt this neighborhood brought out the worst in him and...
  358. 20:59 Oh, my.
  359. 21:00 Well, so long.
  360. 21:07 Bye-bye.
  361. 21:19 Hi.
  362. 21:21 Pleased to meet you. I just moved in.
  363. 21:24 My name is Jerry Ford.
  364. 21:27 Former President Gerald Ford?
  365. 21:29 Put it there. I'm Homer Simpson.
  366. 21:32 Say, Homer, do you like football? Do I ever?
  367. 21:36 Do you like nachos?
  368. 21:38 Yes, Mr. Ford.
  369. 21:40 Well, why don't you come over and watch the game and we'll have nachos.
  370. 21:45 And then some beer.
  371. 21:47 Ooh.
  372. 21:49 Jerry, I think you and I are going to get along just by...
  373. 21:53 Oh!
  374. 22:04 Thank you.
  375. 22:40 Shh.
