What happens

Troy McClure, with swept-back reddish hair and a white sweater vest, holds up a gold remote beside a pedestal labeled "Solid Gold Remote" in a studio. Kent Brockman, the grey-haired news anchor in a maroon suit and blue tie, stands at a microphone under an "On the Air" sign and clock, holding a sheet of paper and cupping one hand to his ear while his expression shifts from squinting to wide-eyed. The scene ends on a title card reading "The Simpson Family Smile-time Variety Hour" over a rows of audience silhouettes.
