What happens

Bart, Lisa, and Marge stand together on a bridge at dusk in the first frames, gazing at a skyline of lit skyscrapers under a red-purple sky, with a large Chrysler-style spire at center. An orange vehicle and a white car drive along the roadway as the view glides forward. The scene then shifts to Homer, bald and stubbled, gripping the steering wheel of a car with shattered windows, his face scowling as he is shown with a grimacing expression, his head streaked with green slime and tears on his cheeks. Later he is shown with a wrinkled, disfigured mask-like face, and Lisa's excited expression and gestures are visible in the background, while the city skyline glows behind.
