What happens

No characters appear in this opening sequence. It begins on a black screen, then shows drifting tan clouds against a blue sky, which give way to the yellow title text 'THE SIMPSONS' over the clouds. The scene then pans to an establishing view of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, with two grey cooling towers marked with atom symbols, a yellow sign reading 'WELCOME TO SPRINGFIELD NUCLEAR POWER PLANT', and green hills behind. Last, a street view appears with a yellow storefront having a striped awning and a sign reading 'DAIRY' beside a pink building, leading toward a school with a flagpole and red-roofed houses on the hill behind it.
