What happens

No regular characters appear in this opening title sequence; the scene opens on black, then shows a blue sky filled with drifting pinkish-tan clouds while the words THE SIMPSONS in yellow letters appear and grow larger among them. The view then pushes through a cloud-shaped opening framed by the yellow letter P into a picture of Springfield's nuclear power plant with its cooling towers and atom symbols, and the view glides over the town's green hills, colorful buildings, and a building labeled SPRINGFIELD. The sequence ends on a street view of a yellow building with a striped awning marked DANNY, leading to a school with purple columns and a flagpole, with the cooling tower of the plant visible in the background.
