What happens

Homer Simpson sits at a desk in front of a bookshelf, holding a pen over a sheet of paper, and glances up with a sly smile before looking back down at his work. Beside him are a green stack of papers and a yellow smiley-face box. Smithers, the thin assistant with round green glasses and a grey suit, stands beside a red armchair where Mr. Burns, the frail, hook-nosed old man with grey hair at the sides, leans forward with his mouth open. The scene then cuts to an exterior of the pink Springfield Civic Center at dusk, with searchlight beams in the sky and a sign reading "Springfield Civic Center, First Annual Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence."
