What happens

Lisa Simpson, the girl with star-shaped spiky hair in a red dress and pearl necklace, and Principal Skinner, the man with neat grey hair in a blue suit and orange tie, first appear in close-up, with Lisa mouthing and gesturing and Skinner listening with his eyes wide and then closed. After a brief black screen, the scene cuts to the front of Springfield Elementary School, with its American flag, purple-trimmed facade and sign, shown at dusk and then in daylight. Back in Skinner's office, certificates hang on the wall as Lisa sits across the desk from him; he speaks, then rests his face in his hands with his eyes shut, and finally sits with his chin in one hand while gesturing with the other.
