About the episode

Francine Rhenquist, a new girl at Springfield Elementary, keeps beating up Lisa, who sets out to discover why bullies target nerds. Lisa finds that nerds give off a bully-provoking scent she names poindextrose and presents her research at a science conference, but once the scent-masking salad dressing runs out, Francine attacks the nerds there. Meanwhile, Homer baby-proofs the house himself and turns the skill into a business.

  2. 1:22 Hey, kids, look who's making breakfast.
  3. 1:26 Itchy and scratchy.
  4. 1:28 That's right, kids. Never start the day on an empty stomach.
  5. 1:36 It's delicious! Wanna try?
  6. 1:38 Yay!
  7. 1:43 Ooh, so cold!
  8. 1:48 Wow! Pink daggers! Green hatches! Yellow ice picks!
  9. 1:52 And Stabios are part of this new...
  10. 1:55 Hey, if you guys made breakfast, where's Mom?
  11. 1:58 Here I am.
  12. 2:00 But thanks to Stabios, most of me is still in bed.
  13. 2:04 That ad campaign may have crossed a line.
  14. 2:06 Oh, what can you do? Sex sells.
  15. 2:11 Homer, you're still here?
  16. 2:12 You should have left for work an hour ago.
  17. 2:14 They said if I come in late again, I'm fired.
  18. 2:17 I can't take that chance.
  19. 2:19 And kids, you're gonna miss the school bus.
  20. 2:21 It's only two blocks away!
  21. 2:29 But I gotta spit. You can spit on the bus.
  22. 2:35 Uh, Mom? Not now, Lisa.
  23. 2:43 Choo, choo, choo! Swallow, swallow, swallow!
  24. 2:54 Aw, darn.
  25. 2:55 Looks like we'll have to stay home today.
  26. 2:57 Not on my watch.
  27. 3:00 Stop!
  28. 3:03 Oh, you wanna drag?
  29. 3:07 Yeah!
  30. 3:12 I'm not racing!
  31. 3:15 It's me, Marge Simpson!
  32. 3:18 No, you eat my dust!
  33. 3:33 Whoa!
  34. 3:35 It's like Speed 2, only with a bus instead of a boat!
  35. 3:51 I did it! I caught the school bus!
  36. 3:54 Now hurry up and get on!
  37. 3:56 But Mom, the school's right here! I won.
  38. 3:59 Don't take that away from me.
  39. 4:06 Okay, everybody off.
  40. 4:08 Oops, almost forgot.
  41. 4:10 Picking up a new kid today.
  42. 4:15 Wow, a new kid.
  43. 4:18 I wonder what they're like.
  44. 4:37 Red hair?
  45. 4:39 What's she trying to pull? Those shoes look Canadian.
  46. 4:43 She'll never fit in.
  47. 4:47 Oh, it's tough being the new kid.
  48. 4:49 Someone should go talk to her.
  49. 4:52 Yeah, somebody should.
  50. 4:53 One hour dry cleaner. Man, that's fast.
  51. 4:58 Kids gone?
  52. 4:59 Yep.
  53. 5:00 It's great to have some time just to ourselves, huh?
  54. 5:03 You read my mind.
  55. 5:08 So, this coffee's good, huh? Yeah.
  56. 5:12 The milk really takes the edge off.
  57. 5:15 You know, I think our marriage is... I got it!
  58. 5:19 No, I got it!
  59. 5:21 Your baby is dead.
  60. 5:24 That's what you'd hear if your baby fell victim to the thousands of death traps lurking in
  61. 5:29 the average American home.
  62. 5:32 Springfield baby-proofing? You really scared us.
  63. 5:36 Sorry about that. But the truth is, your baby Maggie Simpson is dead.
  64. 5:42 Dead tired of baby proofers who don't provide a free estimate.
  65. 5:46 Let's start in the kitchen.
  66. 5:49 Now, pretend I'm a baby.
  67. 5:51 Brrr, goo, goo.
  68. 5:53 Me like to explore.
  69. 5:55 That's a pretty big caboose for a baby.
  70. 5:57 Homer, don't be.
  71. 5:59 Wow, that is huge.
  72. 6:02 Ooh, pretty colors.
  73. 6:04 Me wanna drink.
  74. 6:21 She got it open!
  75. 6:23 You see how quickly your baby could have been drinking this...
  76. 6:26 Similac baby formula?
  77. 6:28 No!
  78. 6:32 Oh, this is such an eye-opener.
  79. 6:35 I always picture the kids dying in the living room.
  80. 6:38 Okay, with the window bars, toilet latches, dingo alarm,
  81. 6:41 and grapefruit squirt shield, your total cost would be...
  82. 6:43 Wow, I'm rich!
  83. 6:45 Three dollars?
  84. 6:46 That doesn't seem so bad. That's the price of the clipboard.
  85. 6:49 Here's your estimate.
  86. 6:51 Mm-hmm.
  87. 6:52 Hmm.
  88. 6:54 We don't need your high-priced safety junk!
  89. 6:58 Thank you.
  90. 7:05 Look at the new kid hogging the teeter-totter.
  91. 7:08 It's like she owns the place. Yeah, she thinks she's babe, pig in the city.
  92. 7:13 Give her a break.
  93. 7:14 Remember your first day at school?
  94. 7:17 Not as long as I keep taking these.
  95. 7:20 Well, someone's got to make her feel welcome.
  96. 7:25 Hi there.
  97. 7:27 My name's Lisa.
  98. 7:28 What's yours?
  99. 7:37 Now don't feel bad, honey.
  100. 7:40 Did you know back in grade school I had a bully problem myself?
  101. 7:45 Everybody was gung-fu fighting!
  102. 7:50 Those cats were fess-fess fighting!
  103. 7:56 Good times.
  104. 7:59 Why don't you try reaching out to this new girl?
  105. 8:02 See if you two have a common interest.
  106. 8:05 Hmm.
  107. 8:06 Well, lots of people like jazz fusion.
  108. 8:12 Okay, that's in the maybe file.
  109. 8:14 What if you two bond over your Malibu Stacy dolls?
  110. 8:18 They're not dolls. They're aspiration figures.
  111. 8:22 But it might work.
  112. 8:25 That baby-proofing crook wanted to sell us safety covers for the electrical outlets.
  113. 8:29 But I'll just draw bunny faces on them to scare Maggie away.
  114. 8:36 She's not afraid of bunnies. She will be.
  115. 8:41 Uh, Francine?
  116. 8:44 I think we got off to a bad start. So, hey!
  117. 8:48 You like Malibu Stacy, too!
  118. 8:51 Oh, yeah.
  119. 8:52 And you like the same one I like with the grad student glamour pack.
  120. 8:56 Just like the one in my... locker.
  121. 9:00 That's mine, isn't it?
  122. 9:06 Tastes like yours.
  123. 9:11 How about Jazz?
  124. 9:13 Do you like Jazz?
  125. 9:15 I like Jazz.
  126. 9:17 Milhouse?
  127. 9:18 She got you too?
  128. 9:19 Yeah, but it's not so bad. I'm standing on Ralph.
  129. 9:22 We're a totem pole. Hiya, hiya, hiya, hiya.
  130. 9:29 And, and, see, honey?
  131. 9:32 Daddy's protecting you from all the sharp, scary things.
  132. 9:36 Here, hold this a sec.
  133. 9:38 Ow!
  134. 9:40 Oh, my!
  135. 9:42 Oh, okay, Maggie. Put it down.
  136. 9:46 Ow!
  137. 9:47 Okay, now, put it down.
  138. 9:53 Okay, that's quite enough. It's not funny anymore.
  139. 9:56 No!
  140. 10:02 Oh, homie.
  141. 10:04 Oh!
  142. 10:06 Wow!
  143. 10:07 Now do you realize how unsafe the American home is?
  144. 10:10 Baby accidents occur every three minutes.
  145. 10:13 I'm the one who told you that.
  146. 10:15 Yeah, but this is me talking. Look, I already encased the telephone in concrete.
  147. 10:20 How are you supposed to dial?
  148. 10:22 Reach into these holes.
  149. 10:23 I use a carrot.
  150. 10:25 Isn't that a little excessive?
  151. 10:26 I mean, how are the buttons dangerous?
  152. 10:28 Baby could order poison.
  153. 10:30 Oh, that's ridiculous.
  154. 10:34 Poison delivery service. A gift basket of poisons is on its way.
  155. 10:38 Oh, I'm a horrible mother.
  156. 10:40 Of course you are.
  157. 10:43 Marge, I finally discovered the reason God made me.
  158. 10:46 To protect his tiniest, most breakable creatures.
  159. 10:49 and I've got to share that gift with the world.
  160. 10:54 Get her out of here.
  161. 10:58 Why are you throwing tomatoes at yourself, huh?
  162. 11:00 Why are you throwing tomatoes at yourself?
  163. 11:03 Your very question is faulty. You're faulty.
  164. 11:09 What do you want?
  165. 11:11 Would you bullies be interested in some bodyguard work?
  166. 11:14 This is so funny. We were just talking about moving into protection.
  167. 11:17 We're offering a recess and lunch package that's very affordable.
  168. 11:21 Well, I'm gonna need full coverage. My bully is highly aggressive.
  169. 11:25 Check out these Indian birds.
  170. 11:26 Good day.
  171. 11:27 Check it out. Triple twist.
  172. 11:29 Nice work.
  173. 11:31 You sure this was done by hand?
  174. 11:33 Yeah, she's a real purist.
  175. 11:35 She?
  176. 11:35 Sorry, we don't do girls. They bite and kick and scratch.
  177. 11:39 And sometimes we fall in love.
  178. 11:41 Hmm.
  179. 11:42 Wow, there's so much I don't understand about bullying.
  180. 11:45 Yeah, there's a lot of history there. Did you know it predates agriculture?
  181. 11:50 Mm-mm. Let's walk.
  182. 11:54 Finish the job.
  183. 11:57 I just don't understand Francine's motivation.
  184. 12:05 Why does she only go after the smart ones?
  185. 12:08 That's like asking the square root of a million.
  186. 12:10 No one will ever know.
  187. 12:12 Someone will. I'm gonna crack the bully code.
  188. 12:15 Oh-de-doo-doo.
  189. 12:17 David knows babies and the soft spots on their heads.
  190. 12:21 Doo-de-doo-doo-doo.
  191. 12:22 Problem.
  192. 12:23 A pointy deity.
  193. 12:25 And I've got the perfect solution.
  194. 12:27 Mm-hmm-hmm-hmm-hmm-hmm-hmm-hmm-hmm-hmm.
  195. 12:30 Oh, thank you. No more Shiva-related pokings.
  196. 12:34 Yeah, you know, down the line, you might want to switch to a nice, round Buddha.
  197. 12:38 Oh!
  198. 12:39 But we are Hindu. So am I, but I don't get all huffy about it.
  199. 13:19 Oh, it is a mighty puddle of puke. I'm sorry.
  200. 13:25 Oh, that's all right, lad.
  201. 13:27 It reminds me why I got into this business.
  202. 13:30 Willie, I need to see the school security tapes.
  203. 13:33 Security tapes?
  204. 13:35 There's no security tapes.
  205. 13:37 It's hard to miss the cameras.
  206. 13:41 Eh, well he's a stinkin' liar.
  207. 13:49 Why does the school need to watch us all the time?
  208. 13:52 School?
  209. 13:53 Oh, here's the tape I need.
  210. 13:56 Oh my God, that roll of towels is nearing the end.
  211. 14:01 Ugh, it's on double red stripe!
  212. 14:19 How did she know I was there?
  213. 14:27 Hey, that time she looked right at me and didn't touch me.
  214. 14:32 Hmm.
  215. 14:37 Of course, the nose clip. Hey, Willy, I think I'm on to something.
  216. 14:42 Check this out.
  217. 14:44 Not talking, eh, Willy? Just listen, then.
  218. 14:47 I think I've figured out what sets off that big ape, Francine.
  219. 14:53 Willy?
  220. 14:56 Whoa!
  221. 14:58 Ah!
  222. 15:05 Walk.
  223. 15:07 Come on, people, move it. I want to see some sweat.
  224. 15:11 I am not mastering another stare until you explain the purpose of this monstrous
  225. 15:17 experiment.
  226. 15:18 I believe the key to bully nerd antagonism lies in your drippings.
  227. 15:23 Then I shall drip like a pot roast. Excellent.
  228. 15:27 Now don't mind the squeegee.
  229. 15:30 Whee!
  230. 15:33 Oh, the scraping seems wrong, but it feels so right.
  231. 15:40 And so, as heavyweight champion,
  232. 15:42 recognized by nine of the 14 sanctioning bodies,
  233. 15:46 I sincerely urge you all to stay in school.
  234. 15:49 Thank you.
  235. 15:52 Thank you, Dredrick Tatum. That was truly a K.O.
  236. 15:57 Knockout oration.
  237. 15:59 Need a ride home?
  238. 16:00 You really don't want that.
  239. 16:02 Trust me.
  240. 16:03 Mr. Tatum, do you mind if I swab you with this damp rag?
  241. 16:07 No, not at all. Swab away.
  242. 16:10 Whoa, whoa.
  243. 16:11 Nobody mentioned a beaker.
  244. 16:12 Please? It's for science.
  245. 16:14 Oh, for science. In that case, proceed.
  246. 16:17 Lisa, this is outrageous.
  247. 16:19 Explain yourself.
  248. 16:20 Shh. It's working. Look.
  249. 16:26 Nelson, what are you doing? I don't know.
  250. 16:29 I can't help myself.
  251. 16:31 Hey, cut it out. I insist that you desist.
  252. 16:35 Sorry.
  253. 16:36 I'm so sorry.
  254. 16:39 Yes!
  255. 16:45 Please don't hurt me.
  256. 16:46 You leave me a little recourse.
  257. 16:48 And now the Estrogen Network presents...
  258. 16:51 Afternoon Yak.
  259. 16:56 Man.
  260. 16:59 Canceled.
  261. 17:00 The safe baby craze. It's sweeping Springfield thanks to one crusading parent.
  262. 17:06 That's me, safety dance.
  263. 17:09 You can dance. You can dance. Everybody look at your pants.
  264. 17:13 But while Homer Simpson has made our babies safe, he's made infant-related businesses cry.
  265. 17:18 All the way away from the bank. How are your baby crutch sales?
  266. 17:22 Uh, terrible, Kent. And cartoon character band-aids, forget about it.
  267. 17:26 Look at this baby.
  268. 17:27 I'm not a scratch on him and I got boat payments.
  269. 17:31 The dream is over.
  270. 17:33 Shut her down, boys!
  271. 17:41 Dear God, what have I done?
  272. 17:44 Babies of Springfield, we need your help.
  273. 17:47 Please, skin your knees. Put dice up your nose.
  274. 17:51 Let cats sleep on your face.
  275. 17:56 The problem?
  276. 17:57 Constant flying saucer attacks.
  277. 18:01 The solution?
  278. 18:03 And thus, the Earth is saved.
  279. 18:08 That's quite an act to follow, Lisa. I know, and the crowd is so distinguished.
  280. 18:13 The inventor of the walkie-talkie is out there.
  281. 18:15 Where?
  282. 18:16 Third row, near the aisle.
  283. 18:18 Oh, you're right.
  284. 18:19 And Matt's not his wife.
  285. 18:22 Scientists, scientists, please. Looking for some order.
  286. 18:25 Some order, please, with the eyes forward and the hands neatly folded.
  287. 18:29 And the paying of attention... Pius exactly three!
  288. 18:34 Very sorry that it had to come to that, but now that I have your attention,
  289. 18:38 we have some exciting new research from young Lisa Simpson.
  290. 18:42 Let's bring her out and pay attention.
  291. 18:47 Let's not listen.
  292. 18:49 Ahem.
  293. 18:50 My study is entitled, Airborne Pheromones and Aggression in Bullies.
  294. 18:55 Bullies! Bullies! I'm afraid.
  295. 18:56 For as long as there have been smart people, there have been bullies to prey on them.
  296. 19:00 From Galileo...
  297. 19:03 to Sir Isaac Newton... and even in the animal kingdom.
  298. 19:08 But why do the brawny prey on the brainy?
  299. 19:11 Is it jealousy?
  300. 19:12 Yes, of course, yes.
  301. 19:14 No.
  302. 19:14 The reason is chemical.
  303. 19:17 That's impossible.
  304. 19:18 That's impossible. Chemicals are our friends.
  305. 19:20 She's a witch! Please, Dr. Coop, let me demonstrate.
  306. 19:26 This is my test subject, Francine.
  307. 19:32 I'd like to thank her parents for helping with the caging.
  308. 19:37 Let me out of here!
  309. 19:39 I have isolated the chemical which is emitted by every geek, dork and four eyes.
  310. 19:44 I call it poindex-tros.
  311. 19:46 Woohoo!
  312. 19:47 Simpsons rule!
  313. 19:49 Sorry.
  314. 19:55 You're dead, nerd!
  315. 19:57 The bully has caught my scent and she's at maximum range.
  316. 20:01 Professor Frank?
  317. 20:04 Very well, Lisa, I'll just finagle the...
  318. 20:07 Are you mad, Frank? Put down that science pole!
  319. 20:19 Huh?
  320. 20:20 My God, she's stopped in her tracks!
  321. 20:22 The little girls invented some sort of bully repellent.
  322. 20:25 Let's not listen. Actually, it's just ordinary salad dressing.
  323. 20:29 So that's where that went.
  324. 20:31 The pungent vinegar and tangy Roquefort blocked the smell receptors,
  325. 20:35 rendering the bully harmless.
  326. 20:39 Congratulations, Lisa.
  327. 20:41 You are truly the standout of this year's big science thing.
  328. 20:45 A gift certificate from J.C. Penney?
  329. 20:48 Yes, you'll love their slacks.
  330. 20:52 Oh, honey, we're so proud of you.
  331. 20:55 So all her bullying was just to get some attention.
  332. 21:00 No, Dad, didn't you listen to anything I said?
  333. 21:03 Just to get some attention.
  334. 21:06 Lisa, help!
  335. 21:12 The repellent's all gone.
  336. 21:14 Don't worry, she'll punch yourself out. Suck fist, Dr.
  337. 21:18 Dork!
  338. 21:19 Someone's gonna sleep well tonight.
  339. 21:52 No more to me, I'm just like a tripazine
  340. 21:58 But it's way too lying so this time I'll just pretend
  341. 22:06 Oh, then I will live to climb again
  342. 22:13 Oh, oh,
  343. 22:15 oh I just remember,
