What happens

No characters appear in this opening sequence. Drifting cartoon clouds cross a blue sky, and the orange title 'THE SIMPSONS' appears over them before the scene shifts to a green hillside town with the pink-and-orange buildings and two grey cooling towers marked with atom symbols of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, whose sign reads 'Welcome to Springfield Nuclear Power Plant'. The view then moves down a street lined with a yellow shop whose striped awning shows partly legible 'DAIRY' lettering, toward a school-like building with red-roofed houses on the hill behind it.
