What happens

Homer, in a white sanitation uniform and captain-style cap, stands atop a silver Springfield garbage truck with his arms spread wide, while Carl drives the truck and other workers in matching white uniforms lift gray trash cans at the curb of a street lined with brightly colored houses. The sequence opens at the Department of Sanitation yard behind a barbed-wire chain-link fence, where the truck rolls out past the sign, then moves onto the street where Homer leaps down from the truck's rear. The workers stomp and tip the cans in unison as the truck with its SPRINGFIELD lettering sits by the curb.
